“The Blue Dress”
The portrait commissions are an important part of my work. Painting is a rather solitary occupation therefore the meeting with the principals and the models to be portrayed, is a welcome variation. Painting for commission is something very different than painting with free inspiration. There are of course always wishes and expectations to be fulfilled. But it is always very pleasant to know where the painting ends up, and to know for whom it has been painted.
The main theme of my work is the depiction of women. The detailed painting of tissue and the quality of cloth-materials is also very important. My most important inspirational sources for painting are the Flemish Primitives; Memling, Rogier van der Weyden and Hans Holbein. Their work is the model of perfection in painting technique, material-expression, composition and the use of color. It breathes the peace and harmony which I also want in my own work.
My work is shown in Galerie Mokum, in the center of Old Amsterdam, at the Oude Zijds Voorburgwal 334 in Amsterdam. My newest work is always at the summer-and winter exhibitions of the gallery, as well as at the yearly International Art- and Antiques Exhibition, the PAN in the RAI in Amsterdam.
